Chapter 1: Into the Light




A pink bird with silver markings stood on a dark field. The field had no grass, only rocks and weeds. Dark storm clouds shrouded the sky, lit only by the crashing of the lightning. The breeze made her white, cyan lined, angel pattern kimono top flutter. She looked around her. When she turned she saw a silver bird standing behind her. He wore a white kimono, with the lightest of blue belt and bandana. His eyes was the color of sunlit ice.
“Who are you?” she asked. He turned away from her and walked into the distance.
“Hedgey… Hedgey… HEDGEY!!” She opened her eyes to see she was sitting on a couch, playing a racing game. “You had one of your visions again.” She looked to her right to see a blue with black and silver markings bird talking to her.
“Maybe I did.” She responded.
“Oh come on, Hedgey! You don’t slam your car into a wall for fun, that’s what I do!”
“Well Duck, maybe I started to.”
“Yeah right,” Duck got up and went to the window. “I heard them again.” She looked out of the window at the clouds.
“What did they say this time?”
“I’ll tell you if you tell me your vision.” She looked back at Hedgey.
“Fine… It was that white bird again. He was standing a field of darkness, looking at me.”
“Again? Why can’t you have better visions?” Duck complained.
“What did the voices tell you today, sis?”
“They said to look into the light.”
“What do you think that means?”
“They want me to look at the sun.”
“Yes, the voices evil plan is to make Duck blind, so she can’t see that car coming towards her. Yes, YES!! HHAAAHAHAAAA!!!”
“You creep me out sometimes.”
“Yeah, well, you’re the one who hears the voices.”
“…True…” Duck went back to the couch and they played some more games.

Duck was making a banana milkshake in the kitchen when Hedgey walked in the room. Hedgey sat down on a wood chair and watched her. Duck put in three bananas, cherry ice cream, milk, a chocolate bar and peanut butter in a large blue cup.
“Ugh, you eat the strangest things.” said Hedgey.
“I’m not making you eat it.” Duck walked to the blender and dumped it all in it.
“That’s going to break the blender.”
“No it won’t. It’s industrial grade.” Duck turned on the blender. It made a grinding sound, and then stopped working, and the lights flickered, and went out, then the blender sparked and started to smoke.
“See, told you.” Hedgey looked at the lights. She got up and turned them back on as Duck unplugged the blender. Hedgey went and sat down in the chair again. Duck looked at the blender, put it down, and went to go get a bowl out of the cupboard. Duck got a large plastic bowl and put it on the counter. When she poured it in the bowl, it made a sucking sound as it came out of the blender, and made a squishing sound when it landed in the bowl.
“Eww, it looks like you’ve already eaten it.” Hedgey said with a look of disgust as she looked at the contents of the bowl.
“It look’s yummy!!” squealed Duck with delight as she started to eat it, without a spoon.
“Don’t eat it with your hands.”
“Okay!” Duck stopped eating with her hands, and stuck her head in the bowl and started to chomp on it.
“Pig. You better clean it up when you’re done.”
“MRMRmrmMrR” Duck replied.
Hedgey shook her head and walked away into the living room. She noticed a piece of paper on the coffee table. It was bright pink. She grabbed it and sat on the couch. It said “Sale at the ice cream shop in the Sunny Cloud Mall. All ice cream half off.” Hedgey looked at the paper, than glanced at Duck, who was dumping more ice cream into her bowl while laughing hysterically, and then looked back at the paper.
“We’re going to need more ice cream.” She mumbled to herself.
Once Duck finished her bowl she went into the living room, covered in ice cream, chocolate, and peanut butter. She went to sit on the couch. “That was good ice cream.”
“Oh no, you don’t! You go clean your-self up before you do anything!” Hedgey scolded.
“Ok, fine. I’ll clean up.” Duck went into the bathroom to clean up. She turned on the sink and started to wash her face.
“Let’s go to the mall tomorrow.” said Hedgey.
“Why?”
“There’s an ad here for half-off ice cream, and by the looks of it, we’re all out.”
“You got that right.” Duck walked back into the room, all clean. She sat down on the couch next to Hedgey.
“And besides, I haven’t shopped with my little sister in forever!”
“Yeah, it’ll be fun. Hey, let’s play video games!”
“Sure, let’s play racing games.”
“Okay” Duck went and got all the controllers and started up the game.
They played racing games for hours, then got tired and played some other games afterwards. Around midnight they decided to go to bed. They both said goodnight and went into there bedrooms. Hedgey changed and crawled into bed. She watched as her tropical fish danced on the roof as she fell asleep and started to dream.
She was standing on top of a mountain on the edge of a cliff that continued into the clouds below. “HOLY!!” She yelped as she sank to the ground. She hugged the ground in terror. The only thing Hedgey feared more than heights were spiders. Hedgey looked away from the cliff and inched away from the edge. Only after she was a good fifty feet away from the cliff did she dare sit up. She looked around her and saw someone watching her. Hedgey never saw him before. He was strange looking. He had two spikes coming out of the back of his head. He wore white clothing, with light blue things on his arms and legs. He had many tails, all tipped with light blue crystals. He stared at her with icy blue eyes. “Who are you?” She asked. He started to walk away from her. “Oh no, you don’t. Not like the last one.” Hedgey got up and started to run towards him. He disappeared right in front of her, and Hedgey realized that she was running towards the cliff. “Oh NO!!” She screamed as she tried to stop, but it was too late, and she fell off the cliff.
Hedgey woke up and looked around her. She was in her bed, safe and sound. She looked at her clock. It was 7:00 in the morning. She got up and started to get ready to go to the mall, her dream still haunting her mind.

Hedgey and Duck walked into the ice cream shop. It was filled with people.
“How much ice cream can we buy?” Duck asked.
“We have enough money for five bins of ice cream.”
“What kind of flavors can we get?”
“I want Strawberry and Mint, you can pick the rest.”
“YYYAAA!” Duck ran off into the crowd of people. Hedgey tried to follow her in the crowd, but it was too thick. She moved slowly but surely to get to Duck. Hedgey heard Duck say something but she could not make it out. She got closer to Duck, now she could see her blue feathers in the mass of people.
“Stop yelling at me!” Duck said, annoyed. Hedgey couldn’t hear anyone yelling at her. Oh No, She thought.
“I SAID STOP YELLING AT ME!!!” Duck screamed, holding her head. Hedgey tried to get to her faster, but there were so many people. Then Hedgey looked around. The people where trying to get away from Duck, making it harder to get to her. Nothing makes people move faster than a crazy lunatic screaming at the voices, Hedgey thought. Once all the people moved out of the way she was able to get to Duck.
“Duck, what’s wrong?!” Hedgey was holding on to her.
“They keep yelling at me!”
“What are they yelling?”
“Look at the light!!” Duck ran off and the people moved out of her way.
“Duck!” She started to run after her but she saw them, Spiders, hundreds of spiders. Hedgey started to back away, and then the spiders started to crawl towards her. “AAAHHHH SPIDERS!!” Hedgey ran away deeper into the shop. She was getting away from them, but she got tired, fast. She slowed down, but the spiders had already gotten to her. She started to try and get them off, but they kept coming. “GET ‘EM OFF ME!!”
“AAAHAHHHH” Duck ran past her and ran into a shelf and sent sprinkles and fudge flying into the air. Hedgey walked backwards and tripped over Duck and fell down. Hedgey saw two people dressed in white over them, and then she lost consciousness.

   Hedgey woke up in a white room. Her head hurt. She couldn’t move her arms. She looked and saw she was one of those jackets they put crazy people in. Great, they think I’m crazy, Hedgey thought. She looked around her, she saw Duck. Duck was in the same kind of jacket as her. Duck was staring at the wall. Then she started to hit her head on it, but it didn’t bother Hedgey, the wall was padded.
“Duck, what are you doing?” Hedgey asked.
“I’m… not… crazy…” Duck said in between hits to the wall.
“Very convincing”
Duck turned around. “You’re finally awake?”
“Yeah, how long have we been in here?”
“I have no clue, but it seems like forever. And they won’t tell me.” Duck nodded to the door; even it was padded too, with only a very small window in it.
“So now what?”
“Don’t know, I was thinking of digging my way out, but then I realized, I have no shovel.”
“Not like you can move your arms anyways.”
“I could use my toes.”
“You have no toes.”
“Yeah, well… your right.” Duck looked at her feet. “If only I had toes…”
“So… What happened in the store? You never did that before.”
Duck looked at the lamp in the roof “I don’t know. I was looking at this banana peanut butter ice cream, then the voices told me to look at the light, so I looked at the light in the freezer, but then they just got louder and louder.” Duck looked turned to Hedgey. “What about you? You where running around too.”
“I saw hundreds of spiders. I know I sometimes see people that aren’t there, but I’ve never had them attack me before.” Hedgey looked to the door. “Do you think there listening?”
“Most likely, who cares, they think we’re crazy anyways. We might as well act like it.” Duck turned back to the wall and started to hit her head again. Hedgey struggled to stand up, but she managed, and she walked over to where Duck was and sat down against the wall. She looked at the door. It seemed like hours before she dosed off into a light sleep. When she woke up Duck was screaming about a needle. Hedgey looked to see that two people where trying to stick them with needles. Hedgey got up and plowed into one. Then she knocked the other one over.
“NEEDLES!!” Duck screamed.
“DUCK!! It’s over, their unconscious.”
“Oh, okay, now what.”
“We escape.”
“Cool, let’s go!” Duck ran out of the room. Then she ran back in. “People are coming! What do we do?” Then a flash of light appeared in between them.
“Duck, it’s the light, look into it!”
“Amazing! It’s so cool!” Duck went up to it. Hedgey went up to it too.
“What is it?”
“It looks like another world.”
Then the flash of light got brighter, then they where in the world Duck saw in the light. They where in a field of bright emerald green grass. The sky was the clearest of blues, and the wind blew bright green leafs across the field. Hedgey saw that they didn’t have the jackets on anymore. It was the most beautiful thing she had seen in a long time.
“Hedgey!! You’re visions are contagious, I’m seeing things too!” Duck said.
“It’s not a vision, Duck. This is real!” responded Hedgey.
“Your right” They both turned around to see a cat looking at them. She wore a sky blue shirt, and blue pants. She had a black scarf with a symbol that looked like an eye on it. She had bright green eyes, and white, black and orange fur.
“Who are you?” asked Hedgey.
“My name is Joan, and this is the World of the Watchers”
